Yuengling “Porter”

Posted: February 2, 2012 in Porter

As far as Porters go this one is alright.  As far as a beer for people that don’t really like thick, dark beer this beer is fantastic.  Yuengling did a good job with this Porter, it is slightly smoky, malty but very smooth.  It isn’t thick like a lot of dark beers are which is great for people that don’t normally drink things like Oatmeal Stout.  Their Porter isn’t very hoppy, or Malty, or any one flavor.  Everything just melts together very well.  This one is a bit more than their Lager, but worth it if you ask me.  All in all it is a good beer, but not like real thick Porters, so go into this one expecting a lighter dark beer (if that even makes sense).

St. George “Porter”

St. George started in a store front in Virginia Beach in 1991.  It now brews in a 10,000 square foot facility in Hampton Virginia.  Their website is pretty cool, they have a good explanation of the brewing process.  The theme is neat too, it is a medieval knight sort of thing.  The Porter is very good too.  It’s not bitter, and malty without being to much.  I like a porter with some hops but sometimes they go a little overboard.  A Porter is supposed to taste like sweet roasted grains not be bitter.  This particular Porter is quite good, try it if you get the chance.
